Brothels in Your Area
Prostitution and the running of Brothels is illegal in South Africa. Even if it were legal, does this give the right to an individual to run a brothel in a community without the communities consent?
It is known fact that brothels can bring down the standard, class and property values in a street or area. They are also one more example of "one broken window leads to many". Surely, communities have rights too? There has been talk of legalising prostitution during the 2010 Soccer World Cup. But this does not mean that it is leagal for a brothel to exist in your area. A brothel is a business and this may contravene zoning regulations. Click here to enquire about zoning in your street. |

Moral Aspect
Human Trafficking
The demand for prostitutes to staff brothels fuels human trafficking.
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. It is rooted in poverty, lack of opportunities, gender discrimination, social and political violence, and demand for services. Other Factors
-Risk of STD’s, especially AID's.
-This industry can become violent.
-It is known that men are robbed and beaten by prostitutes.
-This is not a good message for the youth of South Africa.
-If this law change is only temporary, these women will not be protected once the
laws are changed back and prostitution becomes illegal again.
-Prostitutes are generally labelled and they may feel like outcasts once this profession
is deemed inappropriate again.
