Advice
What Can Be Done Today- to Assist ?
1. Help Berea3 get the database complete. We still need section leaders for Berea 3A, 3D and 3F. We still need a Street Captain for Rorvick, Musgrave Rd 3E (east side between Sydenham and Marriott), Sydenham 3E (north side between Currie and Ridge)and more! Please email us and offer your assitance. |
2. Become passive street guards whenever you leave, arrive home or just
merely driving through The Berea. Be zero tolerant.
- put 10111 on your cell phone and report suspicious behavior to the SAPS.
- put your security company (Chubb, ADT, Blue etc.) on your cell phone and
report suspicious behaviour near your home. Click here for their numbers.
- put your SAPS Sector Manager's direct number on your cell phone and report
serious matters and poor response/performance of SAPS.
- trust your instincts (9 times out of 10, something will be up) and make subtle
indications to suspects that they have been noticed. - never open car windows
or stop to question/interfere with suspects, this is the job of the police and
security companies.
- always have pen and paper in your vehicle and practice ways of remembering
number plates.
- get "clued up" on car models and colours.
- be very suspicious of vehicles with tinted windows.
- pass on this knowledge to your greater family ie. children, house keeper and
gardener.
- be careful who you hire to do maintenance and repairs to your property
Rather get referrals from friends, neighbours or sector management.
3. Report Urban Degradation. It is a known fact that the link between maintaining
civil order and preventing crime is similar to the process whereby one broken
window becomes too many. The basic theory is that serious crime flourishes in
areas in which disorderly behavior and urban degradation go unchecked. To
